Wow!! 2012. Here we are. What a great end to 2011 and what a great year for me in respect of some great projects. I hope that 2012 brings even more brilliant opportunities.

At the end of 2011, as you all know, I started painting the media junction boxes around Brighton. This then evolved in to the Grafik Advent project for Dec.

The month saw varied artworks on green boxes all around Brighton from myself and other Grafik Warfare members.

The project was a success, and I now have my work cut out for me and the crew in the next week or so to cover all the Christmas works up. The results of which will be appearing on here.

In the meantime here are a great selection of shots, captured by the brilliant 4FOOT2. He has a great passion for photographing street art and graffiti and spends a good deal of time finding the best spots and getting the best shots. You can see more of his work on his Flickr – Here.

So that’s it. We reach the end of the Grafik Advent project. It’s been fun. It’s been a challenge. there have been great comments and smiles. There have been nasty comments and bad vibes. I’m glad I did it and got others involved. Brighton now has some great art on boxes.

Let’s say hi to REQ.

Req 1 has been approaching this project with his unique, photo real style.  Immortalising his model, Alice, around the streets of Brighton.

When I first moved to Brighton, around 5 years ago, I was delighted to have the opportunity to meet Req 1.

A key player in Brighton’s graf scene since the 80’s and producer of eclectic beats, REQ1 is now also known for his  skills in observation drawing, and more impressively in spray paint.

So here you are, for the 23rd installment of Grafik advent, Req’s take on the nativity. Keep an eye out for more work by Req around Brighton. He also runs projects through the name DUSTWORKS, and sells his art through INK-D gallery in Brighton.

Grafik Advent 22nd Dec

Another clear and sunny day in Dec. I should be out getting my last minute Christmas shopping done, but no. Dashed out this morning to paint no. 22 on the grafik Advent. Kept it nice and quick and a new personal best. Just over 30mins on this one and lots of nice comments by people on their way to work.

Grafik Advent 20 and 21

So we are rolling to the end of the Grafik Advent with only 4 days to go until Christmas.  Lots more boxes have appeared around Brighton and unfortunately I have broken my camera and my phone so it is getting difficult to log them all. Not to worry though. Here are 2 more for ya.

First up, is another great colourful box by Snub23. I’m digging the white highlights on this, making it look like it has a layer of snow on the letters.

Then a quick entry from myself today. Done as part of the Fresh St.Art project today, with assistance from Sharon.

Grafik Advent Dec 17th, 18th and 19th

Sorry, once again, for the delay in posting. Things are getting more and more hectic in the run up to Christmas. There is still work to be done. There are cards to write and also some Christmas shopping to finish. Arrrrrgh. And on top of this the last 5 Advent pics to be done.

The last few days, I have been busy so we have a collection of boxes done by Req1, Stink Like Dog and Snub 23. These fantastic pictures come courtesy of amazing photographer 4Foot2.

 

As this project has moved along and different artists have become involved, it has been incredible to see the level of artwork being put out there. Grafik Warfare and friends have offered up a range of diversity and skill in producing the boxes. As I say there are 5 days left. Keep tuned in for more awesome work.

Ho, Ho, Holy Guacemole!! Dec 16th – Grafik Advent

Another day, another Father Christmas. I know it is similar to the 12th installment, but I wanted to do this one quick and it was on a bigger, more central box in the city.

For quickness it took just under an hour and had lots of cheery and bewildered Christmas shoppers giving me nice comments and wishing me a ‘Happy Christmas’.:) 🙂

Grafik Advent Dec 15th

So, it’s been a nice sunny day in Brighton today and that has meant that it has been slightly easier to paint boxes.

Today’s installment was in conjuction with Fresh St. Art, the youth project that I run.

 

I was assisted by Taylor, who masterfully filled in the box as I sketched it out and he learnt some techniques of cutting back and creating the pattern.

Good work all round, taking just over an hour to complete.

Dec 13th Grafik Advent and hello to Ennui and Hipster

So here we are with more installments of the Grafik Warfare Advent Calendar Street project. Dec 13th sees a Sinna One Snowman in the mix, but no sign of snow just yet. A lot of rain, wind and very cold weather, but no snow.

We also introduce ENNUI to the project and he serves up a rainbow delight. The artist formerly known as Women 158, never fails to impress with his distinctive style and fantastic women characters. Rocking these boxes out in the freezing cold and dealing with dwindling light, he chooses some bright outline colours to cheer up the dullest of days.

The last few days has also seen a guest appearance of new young artist, Hipster. Using emulsion and pen on the box as an alternative to sprays. Hipster is just as talented with spray paint as he is with any other medium and I’m sure you shall see more work by him in future. Better pic of this to follow.

There are still plenty more boxes to be seen around Brighton. Req 1 has been doing some beautiful photorealism of his model Alice. Once I get pictures there will be a post devoted to it.
