So once again we are flying through the year and not much is getting updated on this site. But that’s not to say that I haven’t been painting much.
After May I wound it down a little as I had been painting sheep ( on walls and boxes, not painting on sheep!) for Brighton Festival and creating a lot of stencil work. When that was over I wanted to paint something different.
Then HR GIGER died and I decided to paint a tribute on the side of the Art Schism shop in Brighton.
I wouldn’t say that my work is GIGER influenced, but the impact that his art had on me when I was younger was immense. How could it not be. The detail, the surrealism, the sexual explicitness. The Alien film design.
Thus I chose to honour the great man with a rendition of his famous alien. I used black transparent paints to sketch out and the technique that REQ had taught me to transpose the form on to the wall.
I then layered up the image with greys, blacks and transparent paint. I didn’t plan the image out, but painted the alien first and then decided to add the detail or a notion of the detail on the background.
Here it is finished.
