Dec 13th Grafik Advent and hello to Ennui and Hipster

So here we are with more installments of the Grafik Warfare Advent Calendar Street project. Dec 13th sees a Sinna One Snowman in the mix, but no sign of snow just yet. A lot of rain, wind and very cold weather, but no snow.

We also introduce ENNUI to the project and he serves up a rainbow delight. The artist formerly known as Women 158, never fails to impress with his distinctive style and fantastic women characters. Rocking these boxes out in the freezing cold and dealing with dwindling light, he chooses some bright outline colours to cheer up the dullest of days.

The last few days has also seen a guest appearance of new young artist, Hipster. Using emulsion and pen on the box as an alternative to sprays. Hipster is just as talented with spray paint as he is with any other medium and I’m sure you shall see more work by him in future. Better pic of this to follow.

There are still plenty more boxes to be seen around Brighton. Req 1 has been doing some beautiful photorealism of his model Alice. Once I get pictures there will be a post devoted to it.

Grafik Advent – Dec 11th

Well in to the project now and new additions popping up all over.

As other artists are doing it, not all of them are directly Christmas related.

But it  makes the street look brighter and cheers people up.

Public response has been positive and I have had lots of nice comments by passers by. There have 1 or 2 nasty and disapproving comments, and I am always open to hearing people’s opinions. I find it frustrating that the people who don’t like it, also are rude and will not give me the time of day to discuss the project.

If you like it or don’t agree with it then tell me what you think.

GRAFIK ADVENT DEC 10th – SNUB

Snub bangs out some 23 steez on the boxes for Dec 10th. These are all located around the city centre.

You can see his other work on his FLICKR.

The 23 is representing SNUB’s favourite number and not the Advent day. That one is yet to come and something big should be coming for the last 2 days of the Advent. Watch this space. 🙂

Sorry for the late uploads on the newest boxes. The project is very much underway with new additions every day and new artisits on the case. I’ve been busy with an open studio show and haven’t had the time to upload. Here are days 7th – the 9th, by Sinna, Snub 23 and Brighton legend, REQ 1.

Lots more boxes have been done in the last couple of days. Keep an eye out in Brighton.

Grafik Advent – Dec 6th.

A new day on the Advent Calendar and 2 offerings for your viewing pleasure. But a down fall too. But lets start with the Positive vibes.

Our first contender. An ace stencil on a large box nr the Western Rd Area of Brighton, painted by Grafik Warfare’s mighty SNUB23.

In true SNUB fashion, he wows us with an awesome background texture then puts his infamous Hammerstein Stencil on top. Super Sharp and So Damn Fresh ( to quote some legendary Ganga Cru!! ). Very tasty Indeed.

Then my slightly later offering of the RoseBot stencil on a smaller box in the New England Quarter. The Stencil on the side underneath my signature was already there. I just decided to go around it. I added the tag lines Invent – Inspire – Love and Respect and Knowledge and Freedom in response to the next bit of news.

The bad news is that, whilst this was going on, the council were sent to remove the images on the boxes on Ann Street, as a lady complained that the project gave out the wrong message to children. These particular boxes are outside of a primary school and the lady thought that they promote Graffiti and Vandalsim. The fact that the project is designed to cover illegal tags and deter future graffiti on the boxes, as well as boost community spirit and brighten the place up did not appease her. The boxes are now setting a good local community example by being painted a nice boring grey colour. Very much in the vein of the opinion and attitude of the lady. Grey and Boring.

Not to worry though, plenty more to come.

The Blind Tiger – The Playgroup Pub

Commissions, Projects, Sinbot, Walls

I have done a few bits and bobs with Playgroup now. They are a Brighton based hub of all that is fun and flamboyant. They put on great parties and know a thing or two about great music. I’ve created artwork for both of their festivals in the last year, so when they opened up their pub, The Blind Tiger, in Brighton, I was asked to paint the wall on the side of it. The theme was set for White Night, an event in Brighton to mark the longest night, when the clocks go back. This years theme was Utopia, or in this case Dystopia. I decided to paint one of my favourite things, Robots and set it as the end of humanity by technology. Once the event was over I went and changed the speech bubble to show Sinbot with a flower.

Prehistoric Puppetry

Collaborations, Events, Festivals, Projects

Last weekend saw the Wonky Paleontology team at the Secret Garden Party. I came along and helped spray the dinosaur and created some dino style Character Cut-Outs as well as helping kids dig up bones out of the sand pit.

The weather was fantastic for the whole weekend, with the majority of the forecast rain bypassing the site. We took the Dino for a walk on the saturday night, roaring our way around the festival and across the front row for Blondie’s performance whilst she sang Heart of Glass and Hanging on the Telephone. We had a massive bop to the gig and then headed to the top of the hill to watch the fireworks, as festie goers serenaded us with the theme to Jurassic Park.

Dino-tastic!!

Keep your eyes peeled for more festie appearances from the Wonky Paleontology team. More info will be here – Wonky Paleontology and extra pics too.
